Last weekend, we had the absolute pleasure of spending a day at Pennywell Farm and let me tell you—it was an experience to remember! Nestled in the heart of the Devon countryside, this little farm is bursting with charm, laughter, and more fun than we could have ever imagined.
The Warmest Welcome
From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with the friendliest smiles. The staff at Pennywell Farm know how to make you feel right at home. The atmosphere was so welcoming, it was as if we’d stepped into a scene from a storybook—rolling hills, the sound of animals in the distance, and that crisp countryside air that just begs you to take a deep breath and relax.
Meeting the Animals
Our adventure began with meeting the stars of the farm: the animals! Pennywell Farm is home to an adorable array of creatures, from the tiniest micro pigs to the fluffiest rabbits. We started by visiting the barn, where we were introduced to some curious goats who were more than happy to be petted. Their playful antics had us all giggling within minutes.
Next, we wandered over to the piglets, who stole the show with their cute, squeaky noises and playful natures. Watching them scurry around was pure entertainment, and we couldn't resist getting up close for a cuddle. Pennywell’s micro pigs are famous, and now we know why! They were so tiny and sweet; it was hard to tear ourselves away.
Hands-On Fun
One of the best parts of the day was the chance to get hands-on with the animals. We helped bottle-feed the lambs, which was such a heartwarming experience. There’s something incredibly satisfying about being part of the animals’ care, and the kids especially loved feeling like little farmers for the day.
But it wasn’t just about watching—we got involved in the activities too! We took a tractor and trailer ride around the farm, which gave us a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside. The driver shared stories about the farm’s history and the local area, which made the ride both fun and educational.
The Famous Pennywell Pig Racing
And then, there was the pig racing. If you’ve never seen pigs racing before, you’re in for a treat! It was the highlight of the day, with everyone cheering on their favorite pig as they dashed around the track. The atmosphere was electric, and it was impossible not to get caught up in the excitement. It’s one of those quirky, unforgettable experiences that make Pennywell Farm truly unique.
Playtime and Picnics
After all that excitement, we took a break to enjoy a picnic in the designated area. The farm has plenty of spots to sit and relax, and the views are just stunning. We munched on sandwiches and sipped on hot chocolate, all while watching the kids run around in the play areas. There’s a great mix of adventure playgrounds and more relaxed zones, so there’s something for everyone.
The Grand Finale: Cuddle Time with the Piglets
Before we knew it, the day was coming to an end, but not before one last cuddle with the piglets. The farm offers designated cuddle times, where you can hold and snuggle the tiny pigs in a cozy indoor space. It was the perfect way to wind down after a busy day—soft, warm, and utterly adorable. We left the farm feeling relaxed, happy, and with a camera roll full of cute animal photos.
Memories to Cherish
Our day at Pennywell Farm was filled with laughter, learning, and more than a few “aww” moments. Whether you're a family with young children, a couple looking for a unique date spot, or just an animal lover, Pennywell Farm has something special to offer. We left with full hearts, tired feet, and a promise to return soon.
If you’re ever in Devon, do yourself a favor and spend a day at Pennywell Farm. You won’t regret it!
